TEN COMMANDMENTS OF GOOD BREEDING WHICH WE PRACTICE

Rule #1 DO NOT BREED POMERANIANS ON FIRST HEAT CYCLE

When a female Pomeranian has whelped a litter of puppies, a heat cycle is skipped in the mating process so that the uterus has time to properly recover from pregnancy and nursing puppies. "Staggering" or skipping also helps preserve breast health in female Pomeranian dogs.
RULE#1 DO NOT BREED TOO EARLY
We do not allow female dogs to breed with males until the second heat cycle to protect the uterus of the female dame. By waiting until the second heat cycle, (Approx 13 to 18 months of age), the female pomeranian has a fully developed uterus and is able to produce a healthy litter of puppies. (This may differ for other breeds).

-RULE #2 DO NOT IN-BREED (DO NOT LINE BREED)
We do not allow breeding of siblings, first cousins, or any type of line breeding to take place. Mutliple studies have been done by
Veterinary research which shows line breeding to be extremely harmful. Line bred puppies have increased health risk that can lead to early death.

-RULE #3 DO NOT OVER-BREED
It is best practice to only allow a female Pomeranian adult to only have a maximum of four litters and get them spayed. By limiting the number of litters, the health of a female Pomeranian is preserved and birth defects in Pomeranian puppies are reduced.   The number of litters can vary between three and four litters based on genetics, age, and health condition of the dame. Veterinary guidance is suggested.

-RULE #4 Stagger Litters between Heat Cycles when possible
When a female Pomeranian has whelped a litter of puppies, a heat cycle is skipped in the mating process so that the uterus has time to properly recover from pregnancy and nursing puppies. "Staggering" or skipping also helps preserve breast health in female Pomeranian dogs. Back to back consequitive breeding with heat cycles should only be done under guidance from a veterinarian. Fertility and age will affect these descisions. Veterinarian should always be consulted.

-RULE #5 SPAY ALL FEMALES AFTER FOURTH AND FINAL LITTER.
Females dames usually will have difficulty giving birth past a fourth litter because deficient lactation hormones, heart murmurs, uterine herniation, and vulvular infection, and pyometra. Other veterinary studies have shown older female dogs having puppies cannot lactate properly to nurish puppies properly.

-RULE #6  ALWAYS DEWORM  PUPPIES AND MOTHER DOG

Studies have shown that intestinal issues in puppies without deworming can weaken the immune system, make puppies vulnerable to parvo virus and can lead to death.  We use Nemex 2 and deworm puppies and mother dog at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks as our standard practice.

-RULE#7 ALWAYS VACCINATE PUPPIES WITH 5 WAY DISTEMPER SHOT AT 49 DAYS OLD.

 Always Vaccinate adult dogs annually.

Pomeranian Puppies should never be given a 7 way dystemper containing leptospirosis vaccine. This vaccine has been known to shut down the immune system in pomeranian puppies causing death.  Failure to vaccine puppies with 5 way distemper shot can lead to puppies dying from parvo virus and the other prevenable canine diseases. Adult dogs should always be properly vaccinated. Healthy adult dogs means healthy puppies.

-RULE #8 ALWAYS HAVE PUPPIES CHECK BY A LICENSE VETERINARIAN BEFORE SALE

It is common sense and it is ethical to always have puppies examined by a licensed veterinarian.  It is important to us to always sell the healthiest puppies possible because we care about good breeding.

-RULE #9 NEVER KEEP DOGS IN CAGES  OR CONFINED IN DIRTY AREAS

Keeping dogs in cages can cause obeisity, muscle deficiency because of a lack of exercise, and can cause filthy diseased

conditions to occure. WE DO NOT KEEP ANY OF OUR DOGS IN CAGES!!!

- RULE #10 CHANGE DRINKING WATER EVERY 4 To 5 HOURS WITH FRESH WATER AND USE HEALTHY DOG FOOD

Dirty drinking water has been shown to contribute to Giardia, cholera, and other diseases. Studies have even shown that dirty water can contain fecal material which can lead to the onset of parvo virus which is deadly.  Clean and fresh drinking water can help ensure that dogs stay healthier.  It is best to clean out the water bowl with a paper towel or toilet paper before filling the water bowl with fresh water.

We generally use Purina Dog chow and we have found this works best for our dogs. Obviously a healthy diet and

reduction of people food is heathiest for dogs.   We generally use Purina puppy chow for puppies below 20 weeks.
